The Lens Calculator helps you calculate the focal length of the lens you will need in order to capture a specific scene at a certain distance. See also the viewfinder which will assist you in comparing different angles of view.
Please enter the length values (distance, width , height) specified in the same measurement unit, e.g. meters or feet. Click the button to the right of the parameter you want to calculate.

Sensor
The size of the sensor affects the image quality and the angle of view. A smaller sensor will offer a narrower field of view, if the distance of the camera and focal length of the lens are kept constant. Sensor sizes for Axis network cameras are normally 1/3" ,1/4", 1/2”,2/3”or 1". These nominations correspond to the following physical size.

Lens
The type of lens also determines what angle of view a camera offers. The types of lenses vary from wide angle lenses to tele or zoom lenses. The lens, depending on its focal length, offers a wide or narrow view. Focal lengths are constant but need to be converted in combination with the camera sensor size, to produce the final angle of view.
